I just love old trees, the water, mallard ducks and the beauty surrounding the waterfront. Tonight we took a drive down to East Bayshore Park and followed it out to Myers Pier. I took some quick photos as I enjoyed the beauty that surrounded me.

The Rejection letter
May 15th, 2008 by Rose DesRochers · 2 Comments
If you’re a writer, do you remember your first rejection slip? Well this month I received one of those rejection emails.
I guess I can share my news with you all now. Wiley Publishing is seeking out author candidates for a new book about Blogger. An acquisitions editor, from Dummies Technology contacted me in March and asked if I would be interested in submitting a proposal. I wasn’t sure if I was knowledgeable enough on Google’s Blogger to write a book, but I thought what the heck and submitted my proposal to them.

Meyers Pier- Zwicks Island
May 14th, 2008 by Rose DesRochers · 3 Comments
Last night we took a drive down to Meyers Pier in Belleville just as the sun was setting. Then we drove over to Zwick’s Park in Belleville.
Speaking of Zwick’s Park, the Tragically Hip will be playing at East Zwick’s Park on June 21. Tickets for the concert are $49.50 each and available at ticketmaster.com. The other performers that will be playing will be Sam Roberts, Sarah Harmer and Attack in Black. It sounds like it is going to be a great concert, but I won’t be attending.
I took some nice photos from both Meyers Pier and Zwick’s Park. I even got a photo of the Canadian Coast Guard’s CCGS Caribou Isle docking.

A Sunday drive on Mothers Day
May 12th, 2008 by Rose DesRochers · 4 Comments
I wanted to wish everyone a belated Happy Mother’s Day. I had a lovely Mother’s Day myself. My daughter had to work Mother’s day. On Friday, she took me shopping then to dinner at Kelsey’s and then she rented a movie for us to watch.
On Saturday, hubby drove me out to the cemetery and we took my mom some marigolds. We figure it would be a good flower for the cemetery as they don’t require much care and my mom always liked marigolds.

Children Mental Health Awareness Day- May 8th
May 8th, 2008 by Rose DesRochers · 24 Comments
Today is “Children’s Mental Health Awareness Day.” Some of you may remember that I suffered from an eating disorder in my late teens. I have also suffered from depression a great portion of my life and it wasn’t until my early 30’s before I was diagnosed.
According to a report published by the Public Health Agency of Canada, “Twenty percent of Canadians will personally experience a mental illness during their lifetime.” One-in-five Ontario youth already struggle with mental health issues. (Children’s Mental Health Ontario) and about one in five American children has a mental disorder. Mental illness can be fatal.
An estimated 20 percent of children and adolescents have mental, behavioral, or developmental disorders—yet only one third of them receives treatment. (U.S. Dept. of Health and Human Services)

I’m not a huge sports fan, but I think that it’s great that the Chicago White Sox and New York Yankees went pink for a cause.

Send an Ecard- Wrong Cards
May 3rd, 2008 by Rose DesRochers · 13 Comments
I can’t see the point in giving greeting cards. The recipient glances at the card and then it eventually ends up in a drawer with all the other cards. There is no rule that says you have to give a card.
I recently missed a friend of mines birthday. Instead of sending him a
mass-produced token of love that would sit in a drawer, I sent him an ecard. Now the ecard had no dancing monkey wearing a party hat on it, but it did get to the point. Wrongcards.com- When you don’t want to say the very best. These are definitely not hallmark cards.

Today we took a Sunday drive out to the town of Tweed to see the aftermaths of the recent flood.
We stopped at the Tweed Memorial Park. Here is a collection of photos we took of the flooded park. Of course it does not look near as bad as it did almost two weeks ago.
